ILP #2

For the second Independent Learning Project I decided to sign up and complete a Lynda tutorial. First, I looked at a tutorial that had anything to do with Education and found an interesting video that discussed how to develop and improve learning objectives. At the end of the video, the instructor suggested extra resources that had to do with career development and talked about how you don't have to necessarily be a teacher to apply learning objectives. ATD provides people with connections to other people that are maybe in the same field and ATD also organizes conferences for career development. As a teacher, the instructor says that you can't just watch one video and call it quits. Instead, you have to keep yourself updated and keep on going. The instructor says that learning objectives have two purposes. The first is they dictate to the learner what they should expect and what is expected of them. The second is if they don't have learning objectives, they wonder why they should even be there. Also, in the Lynda tutorial, I found it interesting that the instructor states that you should consider your end goal and then work backwards from there.

Some notes that I took while watching the tutorial:
- keep parents and administrators updated on what is going on in the class
- theories behind learning objectives= Bloom's Taxonomy & Kirkpatrick's levels of education
- *make sure assignments are aligned with course objectives*
- mental road map
- valuable
- basically for anyone

Blog Post #10

When I become an elementary school teacher I will definitely be using Data Collection tools as a teacher. I plan to be teaching any grade ranging from Kindergarten-Fourth grade students. I will use the Data Collection tool to keep track of my student's grades and work during the school year. As an elementary school teacher, you don't just teach one subject- you teach a little bit of all subjects. The Data Collection tool can be helpful in order for the teacher to have an idea of which subjects the students perform their best or worst in and I could use the Data Collection to see any changes in grades that my students are making. For example, if I have a student that is 
making all A's on all of their assignments and then all of a sudden they fail a test, then I will have the Data Collection Tool to keep me updated on their sudden change. 

Topics that I found most interesting from reviewing my classmates' blogs is that I found the blog posts to be helpful for getting different opinions on different technologies and resources so that this can help me in the future for when I am an elementary school teacher. I liked looking at other people's projects at the end of their blogs and seeing how they did their assignments and how everyones was different from one another. 

The technology-related skill that I would most like to learn next is how to make flyers and brochures for class assignments and projects. I haven't had a project where I've been obligated to do one of those yet, but it has been optional in the past.. I've just never known how to do it. I think brochures and flyers would be cute and easy to incorporate in an elementary school classroom. 

Some ways in which I might achieve my future educational technology-related goals is to just keep practicing and learning about different technologies that are created and advanced. I'm not really the best with using technology but once I know how to use a specific form of it I become better with it. I think that it is important to consider which technologies would be the best to use in the classroom with students. There are different technologies to use for different age groups and that is something I need to figure out and decide for when I am finally a teacher. I know that in the future technology is going to be even more advanced and used in the classrooms than it is now.
